Why does water seem so much more refreshing in the summer? Even a glass of ice water tastes just a little bit better when sipping it on a hot July day. Water is a big part of these warmer months – on lake days, time at the swimming pool, and running through the sprinklers.

Unfortunately, there are other places water can show up and they won’t be nearly as fun of an experience. Summertime is a prime time for water leaks in your home. Here are some common places you may find puddles (hopefully not rivers!) in or around your home this summer.

  1. Garbage disposal – Ever heard a “drip…drip…drip” underneath your sink, accompanied by a lovely rotting smell? During the summer, all kinds of things get dumped down the kitchen drain – because who wants to be stuck inside cleaning up when all the fun is outside? Your kitchen sink also tends to work double-time during the summer, since there are more people eating in the house during the day.   2. Toilets –  Like garbage disposals, toilets are likely seeing a spike in usage during the summer months, which means increased chances for overflows. Be sure to give everyone (especially the little kiddos) a refresher on what can be flushed and how much of it!   3. Sewer system –  You usually don’t think about this part of your home until it’s not working the way it should, but making sure your sewer stays clear is vital to making sure you enjoy your summer. Between the increase in rainfall and plants spreading their roots more in the warmer weather, there are many hazards lurking around out there!
